Diabetic Eye Exams

Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults.  If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, you may be at risk for losing vision because you body does not utilize sugar properly.  When blood sugar levels rise or fluctuate, it can damage the blood vessels inside the eye.  It may also lead to other problems such as early cataracts, vision fluctuations, dry eyes, and nerve damage.  The longer you have diabetes, the greater the chances you will develop diabetic eye disease.

Dry Eye Evaluation and Management

Dry eye disease can significantly reduce your quality of life.  It is an increasingly common eye condition that can happen for several reasons including allergies, environmental factors, side effects from medications, hormonal changes, and underlying systemic conditions.  Depending on the cause and exact symptoms of your dry eyes, Dr. Neal has the expertise to form an appropriate management plan aimed at eliminating symptoms and improving your vision.

If you have symptoms such as red, irritated eyes, watering of the eyes, light sensitivity, or intermittent blurred vision consider scheduling a dry eye evaluation.

Emergencies and Urgent Eye Care

We are well-equipped to manage and treat acute eye problems such a styes, pink/red/painful eyes, abrasions, foreign body removal, corneal burns, flashes of light/floaters, sudden loss of vision, etc.  Do not wait for hours at the ER.  If you have an eye emergency, come see us.  We are currently taking walk-ins and same day appointments.

High Risk Medication Monitoring

Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) can have tremendous benefits, often in the treatment of autoimmune disease.  However, it may cause toxic side effects to the eye that can lead to vision loss.  Patients who are taking this medication must be screened to check for any ocular changes on a yearly basis.  We are able to use the latest technology to monitor for changes to ensure that there is no damage to your vision.

Eye Diseases and Disorders

Dr. Neal has the skills and training required to diagnose and manage a variety of eye diseases including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.  The major benefit of a comprehensive eye exam is to detect the earliest signs of eye diseases before any symptoms are noticeable to you.  If a disease is diagnosed, Dr. Neal can monitor it and, when necessary, refer you to qualified specialists.
